Getting your measurements for made to measure mastectomy or
lumpectomy clothes is simple and easy with very little chance of
    making a mistake, using:

(These directions are ONLY necessary if you want more specific made to your measurements
custom made mastectomy clothes than are available with the listed options on the product
    pages of the store)

  •    a digital camera, just a regular one
  •    a regular size piece of paper (81/2 inches x 11 inches)
  •    a sewing tape measure (found in any sewing section of a store) to take
       5 measurements of your body

First.... get dressed in a top that is fairly tight fitting like the lady
in this picture, with your bra on and your breast form prosthesis
    inside.

Then get a friend or family member with a simple digital camera  to
come over and give you a hand.  Some pictures of yourself you can
take by yourself, but these pictures you will need to have someone
    take for you.

You can have the picture taken so that your face doesn't
show if you want, and as always you can be assured that these pictures
will not be used in any other way than to take the remaining measurements
I need to sew your custom made mastectomy and/or lumpectomy clothes.

To Take The Pictures (only 2 of them)

  •    stand in front of a closed door or wall
  •    hold a regular sized piece of paper (8 1/2 inches x 11 inches) (the paper I used in
the picture is ruled or lined loose leaf that the kids use in school)
  •    take the  2 poses
  • one from the front of you holding the piece of paper
  • one from the side of you holding the piece of paper,

  •    when you hold the paper, try holding it so it doesn't curve

What Do You Do Now With The Pictures?

  •       transfer your pictures to your computer
  •     open up your notepad, or word or publisher program

  •    copy and paste the pictures to a page in a notepad, word or publisher program

  •    make the pictures smaller so they don't take up the whole page, regular
photo size (4 inches x 6 inches) is good; you can do this by clicking on the picture,
pointing the mouse to the corner of the picture until you see an arrow.  With the
mouse clicked on, move the corner of the picture towards the center of the picture
until you have the desired size.

  •    email the pictures to me at lillian@mastectomydesigns.com as attachments (click on
the link lillian@mastectomydesigns.com, an email window will pop up, click where it
says attachments, you will be able to browse or click where on your computer you
have your pictures, click where you have them and they will become attached to the
email you are sending me.  But don't forget to include the following measurements)

  • first you open up the email
  • then click on attach
  • select the pictures from your notepad, word or publisher page
  • click send after you  have included the 5 measurements in the text of your
    email

    What measurements do you take?

    1.  High Bust

    -  measure around your body just above your bust and just under your armpits, trying
to keep the tape measure at the same height in back as you have it in front.

    - if you have a hollow chest where you had your mastectomy surgery, so that your one
side of the upper chest is smaller than the other, then measure the two sides
separately, ( I know I said just 5 measurements, maybe we can count these two as 1
    measurement?)

    - measure from the center of your chest bone in front to the center of your back bone
in the back on both sides of your body

    2.  Full Bust

    - measure around your body over the fullest part of your bust, take this measurement
with your bra on and your breast form prosthesis inside

    3.  Rib Cage

    - measure around your body just under your bust, the place where your bra band
    usually is

    4.  Waist

    - bend toward the side, take note of the place where you get a crease in the side
    - measure around your body at this crease (it doesn't matter whether you usually wear
your clothes at this waist level, it is just a marker for me to know how wide I need to
make your mastectomy garment at this level)

    5.  High Hip

    - find the place on your body that is 3 1/2 inches below your waist (where the crease is)

    - measure around your body trying to keep the tape measure level all the way around
    - I know this one can be difficult because the tape measure wants to keep sliding
down, but just do the best that you can, it will give me an idea of how wide to make the
    garment at this level

Click the email and send !

  • Now take these measurements and type them into the body of the email with your
pictures, together with your name and address.  That way I can match your email with
your pictures and your measurements with your order that will come through the
    shopping cart.

  • Click send and all the necessary measurements for your made to measure
mastectomy garment will reach me about the same time as your order.
