It's a powerful word, Sharon Cissna told a House subcommittee Wednesday. And each time she said it to a growing circle of TSA agents, airport workers, and police in Seattle last month, she felt more confident. "No," the Democrat from Anchorage recalled saying, "I will not be physically touched. I will leave the airport. There will be another way to return to the statehouse in Juneau." She used the word horror to describe what happened in November, when she was returning from surgery and her prosthetic breast triggered a whole-body-imaging machine alarm. She likened the pat-down to a "feeling up."
March, 2011 Here are some sites that discuss Vitamin D and breast cancer
I just discovered this news, and now have been told it was in the news last year, but thought I'd pass these on to you anyway because of the huge connection between the two.
"George's Hospital Medical School in London finds local production of vitamin D in breast tissue reduces the risk for breast cancer. For women with low breast tissue levels of vitamin D the risk for breast cancer rose by 354%! This study suggests women sunbathe with breast tissue exposed to the sun to enhance local vitamin D production. The provision of 400 IU of vitamin D per day has been found to reduce the risk of pancreatic cancer by 43%". - You Don't Have to be Afraid of Cancer Anymore by Bill Sardi
"Publishing in the journal Anticancer Research, researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and Creighton University School of Medicine have found that much higher levels of the sunshine vitamin are necessary to prevent or markedly reduce the incidence of breast cancer and other chronic conditions."
January 11, 2010From 10connects.com in Tampa, Florida comes this interesting news - science catching up with what we have been told so many times ---Pomegranite may fight some breast cancers. "We were surprised by our findings," principal investigator Shiuan Chen, co- leader of the Breast Cancer Research Program at City of Hope in Duarte, Calif., said in a news release. "We previously found other fruits, such as grapes, to be capable of the inhibition of aromatase. But, phytochemicals in pomegranates and in grapes are different." Aromatase is an enzyme linked to the developement of estrogen-responsive breast cancer. http://www.wtsp.com/news/health/story.aspx? storyid=121931&catid=12

June 11, 2009 A night of hope and support - Relay for Life - in Brandon, Manitoba on Friday, May 29,2009. Teams set up their tents Friday in the extremely gusty winds, preparing for the 12 hour walk 7 pm to 7 am Saturday morning. What a moving sight to see the survivors' walk (Darlene from JSAW Mastectomy Designs among them as a breast cancer survivor), and then to see teams of 2-8 people walking in relays of support around the lighted oval at the Riverbank Discovery Center, Brandon. To the right is a picture of JSAW Mastectomy Designs' booth in the Smart Shop Tent at the Relay for Life.
ScienceDaily (June 10, 2009) "Fifty-one Genes Predict Breast Cancer Survival — It may be possible in the future to use a specimen from the tumour to determine which patients with breast cancer have a good chance of overcoming the disease, and which patients should be given more intensive treatments. Fifty-one genes may together provide information about the prognosis for an individual patient. These are the conclusions of a thesis presented at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden." To read more http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/06/090610160908.htm
June 10, 2009 Certain genetic variations in people are possibly interferring with the effectiveness of chemotherapy drugs. A National Cancer Institute led team did a study on 600 American and Norwegian breast cancer patients. The results of this study could lead to the development of a diagnostic test that shows if an individual has these genetic variations.
