Today I went with my friend to see a specialist re some test results. The reason for this was to be another set of "ears" for her. I had questions that I wanted to ask the doctor on my friend's behalf, but wasn't sure exactly what or if the protocal was in place for me to do so. The entire visit reminded me of when I asked a friend to come along with me when I went to see my doctor about the results of my ultrasound biopsy on a lump on my breast. Having gone on the breast cancer journey 2 years earlier, she knew the questions to ask, and am so grateful that she did. Questions that gave me the answers I would later want to have. Like "what grade, and what stage is the breast cancer, is it estrogen fed". I had no idea that those kind of questions even existed. Had never heard about them before. Yet those questions helped me understand what kind of breast cancer it was that I was facing, how big the breast cancer tumor had grown, and how fast it was growing. So if you are faced with a possible diagnosis of breast cancer, take a friend with you and give her permission to ask questions like the above. It is hard to think of questions when the diagnosis comes as breast cancer, especially questions that you had no idea you might want answers for.
